We install a layered system of underlayments designed to match code, climate, and manufacturer requirements:
- Synthetic underlayment: This covers the main roof field. It provides a strong, tear-resistant, and water-shedding base that’s safer to walk on and won’t wrinkle or absorb moisture like traditional felt.
- Ice & water shield (peel-and-stick barrier): Installed along eaves (for ice dam protection), valleys (where water concentrates), and around all penetrations such as chimneys, skylights, and vents. We also use it on low-slope areas where shingles alone aren’t enough to prevent leaks.
- Special conditions: In high-exposure zones (steep slopes facing prevailing wind, dead valleys, or transition areas), we may extend ice & water shield beyond code minimums for added protection.
All underlayments are installed to meet or exceed local building code and manufacturer guidelines, ensuring full warranty coverage and long-term leak protection. We document the installation with photos so you can see how each layer was applied before shingles are installed.
