Your roof keeps the weather off everything else you own. When it starts to fail, the damage rarely stays on the roof: it shows up as stained ceilings, wet insulation, soft decking and, eventually, mold. Brothers Roofing and Construction repairs, replaces and inspects roofs on homes and commercial buildings across Columbus and Central Ohio. The company is family-owned and led by owner Bill, who has more than 25 years of roofing experience.
This page explains what we do, how a roof project works with us from the first call to the final cleanup, what drives the cost, and the questions homeowners ask us most.
Roofing services we offer
- Roof replacement: a full tear-off and a new roofing system, built to the manufacturer's specifications.
- Roof repair: leaks, missing or damaged shingles, failed flashing and worn pipe boots.
- Roof inspection: a free look with photos, so you know what you have before you spend anything.
- Storm damage: hail and wind damage documented and repaired.
- Chimney repair and flashing, one of the most common sources of leaks we see.
- Gutters, which keep water moving off the roof and away from the foundation.
- Metal roofing and commercial roofing. Ask us about your building.
Repair or replace? How we help you decide
Most calls start with a problem: a leak after a storm, shingles in the yard, or a home inspection report that says the roof is near the end of its life. A repair makes sense when the damage is limited to one area and the rest of the roof still has years left. A replacement makes sense when the shingles are worn across the whole roof, when there are several layers already, or when leaks keep coming back in different places.
We'll tell you which one we'd do if it were our house, and why. If a repair will hold, you'll hear that from us. You'll get photos of what we saw, so you're not taking anyone's word for it.
What the free inspection covers
We look at the roof itself and at everything that usually fails first:
- Shingle condition: curling, cracking, missing tabs and granule loss.
- Flashing at chimneys, walls, skylights and valleys, where many leaks start.
- Pipe boots and roof vents.
- Gutters and the drip edge.
- Signs of trouble inside where we can see them: attic moisture, staining and ventilation.
You get the photos and a plain-English explanation. If a storm caused the damage, those photos are documentation you can hand your insurer.
What drives the cost of a roof
No two roofs cost the same, which is why we only give a number after we've seen yours. These are the things that move the price:
- Size. Roofers measure in "squares" (100 square feet of roof). More squares means more material and more labor.
- Pitch and access. A steep roof, or one with several stories and dormers, takes more time and safety equipment than a low, simple one.
- Layers. Every old layer that has to come off adds labor and disposal.
- The deck underneath. Rotten or soft boards only show up once the old shingles are off, and they have to be replaced before anything new goes on. Ask us how that's handled in your estimate.
- Materials. The shingle line, the underlayment, ice and water barrier, ventilation and accessories you choose.
- Details. Chimneys, skylights, valleys and walls all need flashing, and each one adds work.
Your written estimate spells out what's included, so you can compare it line for line with anyone else's.
How we build a roof
We recommend a full tear-off on a replacement, so we can inspect the wood deck and replace damaged sheathing before the new roof goes on. Then we install the system in layers: ice and water barrier at the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment, new drip edge, starter and ridge caps, and properly integrated flashing. We look at attic ventilation, too, because a poorly vented attic shortens the life of any roof. When the job is done we haul away the old materials, run a magnet over the yard and driveway for nails, and photograph the work.
Warranties
Brothers is a 2026 GAF Certified Residential Roofing Contractor, so a qualifying GAF roof we install can carry the GAF System Plus Limited Warranty. That warranty comes from GAF and covers manufacturing defects in GAF's products. Separately, Brothers backs its own installation work with a workmanship warranty of up to 10 years. The length for your job is written into your contract. Read exactly what each warranty covers.
Financing
A roof is rarely a planned expense. Brothers offers financing through Hearth, a third-party financing platform. Your options depend on your own application with Hearth and are subject to credit approval. Ask about it at your free estimate, or read more on our financing page.

Questions we get asked
How much does a new roof cost in Columbus?
It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, how many old layers come off, how much of the wood deck needs replacing, and the shingle and accessories you choose. We don't quote prices over the phone, because a number without seeing the roof is a guess. The inspection and the written estimate are free.
Do you repair roofs, or only replace them?
Both. If a repair will genuinely solve the problem, we'll tell you so. A replacement only makes sense when the roof is near the end of its life or the damage is spread across it.
Do you tear off the old roof or roof over it?
We recommend and perform a full tear-off. It's the only way to see the wood deck underneath, replace soft or rotten boards, and install the system the way the manufacturer requires. We only consider a layover when local code allows it and the existing single layer is flat, dry and sound, and we'd go over the trade-offs with you first.
Can you help with an insurance claim after a storm?
We'll inspect the roof, photograph any storm or wind damage, and give you that documentation for your insurer. We don't file, handle or negotiate claims. That stays between you and your insurance company (or a licensed public adjuster, if you hire one). If you'd like us there when the adjuster visits, we're glad to be, so we can show them what we found.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Brothers holds City of Columbus Home Improvement Contractor License #HIC04072 and General Contractor Registration #G11270, and carries general liability insurance with Erie Insurance. Details and how to check them are on our licenses and insurance page.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, through Hearth, a third-party financing platform. Your options depend on your own application with Hearth and are subject to credit approval. Ask about it at your free estimate.
